An Associate’s Perspective

Stanislas Libmond is an Associate with Alvarez & Marsal Consumer and Retail Group in New York. After multiple internships in the retail and luxury industries, he joined A&M CRG full-time in February 2021.

A Day in the Life

Here’s an account – in Stan’s words – of a typical day working as an A&M Associate.

7:30 am
I wake up, shower, and get some coffee. I usually take some time to call some friends or family in Europe – with the time difference, it’s a perfect moment to do so before work starts. Work habits are still flexible, and we can work from home or from the office, depending on our preferences. I enjoy going a couple times a week.
8:30 am
I start my workday by replying to pending e-mails, as well as updating my to-do-list for the day. I would usually also take some time to prepare for the upcoming meetings (both internal and client facing) – along with a second coffee!
9:30 am
We have a daily project touchbase with the team. It’s a great time to sync and update each other on our progress, as well as talk about any roadblocks we might be encountering on our workstreams.
10:00 am

You constantly learn about a new part of the business and it keeps the job exciting!

Time for some actual project work: being on this project is a great experience, as it covers a lot of aspects: strategy work, pricing, supply chain, etc.
1.00 pm
I get some lunch between meetings – if I’m in the office, my favorite is a Middle-Eastern cuisine take-away!
2.00 pm
As I am involved in the CRG Recruiting effort, I take part in meetings to discuss the recruiting strategy for the next season, as well as our involvement in campus recruitment initiatives. I also have some regular check-ins with recent new hires (“buddies”) to help them navigate their first weeks as a consultant at CRG.
3.00 pm
We have client meetings almost every day – as we meet with each brand lead individually bi-weekly. Alignment is key in the success of such a project and these times are a precious moment to share our updates, materials, and thoughts to the client team, but also to answer any question they may have.
7.00 pm
We frequently have organized or informal events with the New York CRG consultants. It’s always a great time to catch up. When that’s not happening, I would usually use this early evening time to go to the gym or go swimming laps: a relaxing way to unwind of the day.
9.00 pm
When not out for dinner with friends, I usually cook at home and enjoy watching a Netflix show.

More About Retail

Stan’s client is a portfolio of multiple brands, focusing on men’s and women’s apparel, sportswear, and sports equipment, as well as homewares. The company brought on A&M to lead their international expansion: from identifying the relevant markets to go after to implementation.

Stan has worked to identify key markets to enter, based on a scoring of their attractiveness. He currently focuses on price benchmarking across Europe as well as on supply chain aspects of the launch in Canada and in Europe.
