A Manager's
Perspective

Stanislas Libmond is a Manager with Alvarez & Marsal Consumer and Retail Group in New York. After multiple internships in the retail and luxury industries, he joined A&M CRG full-time in February 2021 as an Associate.

A Day in the Life

Here’s an account – in Stan’s words – of a typical day on the road working as an A&M Manager.

Visiting clients on-site is to me a key component of my experience at CRG. It is a truly unique way to build relationships with our clients, which undoubtedly lead to better buy-in of our recommendations! It is also a fun way to engage with team members.

7:00 am
While on the road, I typically wake up and fit a workout early in the morning (or a swim, when possible!). I can usually also take some time to call some friends or family in Europe – with the time difference, it’s a perfect moment to do so before work starts.
9:00 am
Our team gathers for a working breakfast to set the goals for the day. It is a great time to sync and update each other on our progress, as well as talk about any roadblocks we might be encountering on our workstreams.
10:00 am

You constantly learn about a new part of the business and it keeps the job exciting!

We head to the client site where we meet with leadership team members. A&M CRG truly empowers young consultants to engage with clients, and it is often the case that I can present findings or lead workshops.
2:00 pm
As I am involved in the CRG Recruiting effort, I take part in meetings to discuss the recruiting strategy for the next season, as well as our involvement in campus recruitment initiatives. I also have some regular check-ins with recent new hires (“buddies”) to help them navigate their first weeks as a consultant at CRG.
6:00 pm
As the day comes to a close, I spend some time reviewing my notes and preparing for the next day's meetings.
7:00 pm
We usually have team dinner – which are always a great way to try local cuisine! My day would end with an espresso martini (having started with an espresso, the loop is closed!)

The days as consultant can be demanding but are always incredibly rewarding – the ability to work directly with clients and make a tangible impact on their business is what makes the job so fulfilling!

More About Retail

Stan’s client is a portfolio of multiple brands, focusing on men’s and women’s apparel, sportswear, and sports equipment, as well as homewares. The company brought on A&M to lead their international expansion: from identifying the relevant markets to go after to implementation.

Stan has worked to identify key markets to enter, based on a scoring of their attractiveness. He currently focuses on price benchmarking across Europe as well as on supply chain aspects of the launch in Canada and in Europe.
