Growing Orchids and Nurturing Client Relationships

Outside of the busy consulting life, I love growing orchids; I found it is a good way to balance the fast-paced work life – reminding me to slow down and enjoy the inspiration and creativity brought by nature itself.

I bought my first orchid many years back and, at that time, the plant was a bit mythic to me – incredibly beautiful blooms that can last for months, but also very difficult to make it rebloom if one doesn’t provide it with the right growing conditions and care. After research, different experiments and patience, I finally successfully rebloomed my first orchid- and I was super excited! Since then, I have built a small collection of orchids at home that I deeply care about.

I found that the success formula in growing orchids shares essential elements that are key to building great client relationships – Deeply care about clients’ interests, be curious about their challenges, understand their needs, and take a hands-on approach to solving their problems.

It takes patience, curiosity, and some level of hassle to grow great orchids. One could go to a grocery shop and pick up a near-bloom size plant for instant gratification. However, I find that hunting for a unique / rare orchid, caring and growing it from a young plant to a mature one, is just as satisfying of an experience. You learn every aspect of your plant along the way, enabling you to provide the perfect care the plant needs. The rewards are also handsome – uniquely beautiful blooms of your choice year after year that only get better over time.

I found that the success formula in growing orchids shares essential elements that are key to building great client relationships – Deeply care about clients’ interests, be curious about their challenges, understand their needs, and take a hands-on approach to solving their problems. And it is incredibly rewarding when clients call you back for more services because they trust you and enjoy the relationships you fostered over time.

At A&M CRG, I feel fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues who are very passionate about building deep client relationships and delivering great client impacts. We are still a very young group but have already developed some amazing stories that we, in partnership with our clients, are very proud of. I look forward to seeing more of those stories unfold as we grow our group.
